April 23rd is National Shakespeare Day and a great deal of pageantry is devoted to The Bard in schools across the nation and his hometown of Stratford-Upon-Avon.
At Last Minute Cottages though, we wanted to encourage travellers to visit the places that inspired and featured in many of Shakespeare’s great plays.
So, from castles in the Scottish Highlands, to the wild coasts of Wales via fair Verona, come with us on a journey into the realm of the English language’s greatest ever influencer.
Our Shakespeare Settings Travel Guide contains thirteen locations and covers England, Scotland, Wales, Denmark, Greece, Italy and Sicily, pulling in some key facts about the plays in question, famous quotes and a mix of things to see and do in each place while on holiday.
Special attention has been paid to anything of note that has survived from the late 16th and early 17th centuries, so explorers can firmly place themselves in the great poet’s shoes, but we also thought it would be nice to help travellers plan their day with some recommendations for places to stop for food and drink along the way.
