Six scenic bus trips for £2 or less this summer

June 8, 2023

With the government capping many single bus fares in England at £2 until October 31st, Snaptrip* has collated some of the most enjoyable bus journeys in the country to help holiday budgets go a little further this summer.

Inspired by a story on the Mirror website about the excellent value and beauty on offer by riding the 599 bus through the Lake District’s top beauty spots, Our travel experts set out to find others like it and quickly realised we were spoiled for choice.

Eventually the favourites chosen were:

  1. The 65 from Buxton to Sheffield
  2. The 1A Coastal Clipper from Lowestoft to Martham
  3. The Ad122 Hadrian’s Wall route in Northumberland
  4. Route 12 from Brighton to Eastbourne
  5. The X93 from Whitby to Scarborough
  6. The 55 from Exeter to Tiverton.

Further details on routes can be found in the online guide including:

  • Route duration
  • Bus frequency
  • How to get your tickets
  • More detailed information about each routes
  • Top things to do at the start and end points of each route
  • Attractions worth breaking the journey for mid-route.

We also reached out to the bus route operators, the National Trust and local tourism organisations for their recommendations on things to do at the start, end and along each route, as well as to get their take on how much visitors can save with the fare cap and how using public transport benefits local economies.

Matt Fox, CEO of Snaptrip Group says: “We’ve got survey data that tells us a lot of people are planning to go on the same number of holidays as usual this year despite the pressures caused by the cost of living crisis, so any small ideas that help people get more value or push their budgets further can only be a good thing.

“These routes are a fun activity in and of themselves, offer great value and protect people from enduring a busman’s holiday. Sometimes the journey really is as important as the destination and we hope these  suggestions are inspirational for those looking for summer holiday ideas and family days out.”
