A holiday booking site has revealed that the UK’s average cost of fish and chips has risen to £11.05, so has compiled a list of the British holiday destinations with the best and cheapest chippy meals. North Yorkshire tops the list as the holiday destination with the lowest average price for fish and chips, closely followed by Devon and the Scottish Highlands. Over the past year, prices of fish such as cod and haddock have increased by 75%, while the price of cooking oil is up 60%*, increases that are forcing takeaways and restaurants to raise their prices. The reports of price rises of the dish often associated with the British seaside and holidays prompted the holiday booking site to conduct the research.
A leading holiday booking site has conducted research to reveal that the average cost of fish and chips in the UK today is £11.05.
Snaptrip.com compiled data to find out the current average cost of the British fried favourite, along with the top UK holiday destinations where people can find the best and cheapest fish and chips. North Yorkshire, Devon and the Scottish Highlands, consecutively, top the list.
The research comes after inflation caused produce prices to rise drastically over the past year - with the cost of fish such as cod and haddock going up by 75% and cooking oil by 60%* - meaning the cost of the popular meal is more expensive than ever. In February 2022, The National Federation of Fish Friers said that the average price for the meal at that time was between £6.50 and £9.

As well as using data to determine the national average cost for fish and chips, the booking site analysed the menu prices of the best fish and chip shops located in the UK’s top holiday destinations. The prices were then used to create an average cost for each location. The top holiday locations are based on the site’s internal booking data.
While all regions in the top 10 offer average prices below the national average of £11.05, visitors to North Yorkshire, Devon or the Scottish Highlands can be sure they will get their money’s worth, paying an average cost between £7 - £10 for fish and chips.
The data suggests that holiday destinations in England are the best for those looking for a cheap chippy meal, with six regions out of the top ten located in England.
Despite offering a classic fish and chips for £4.25 - the lowest individual price of all restaurants in the list - R&Bs in Inverness does not scrimp on quality, with a Google reviews rating of 4.3 stars.
Whilst conducting the research, Snaptrip.com was intrigued to know more about some of the quirkier fish and chip shops in the UK, including Binley Mega Chippy. After going viral on TikTok thanks to a song dedicated to the takeaway, the Coventry-based chip shop has been inundated with visitors. Customers to the chippy can expect fish and chips for a low cost of £7.60.
